Sabouraud Dextrose Agar was originally formulated by Sabouraud and further modified by Emmons by reducing dextrose content and adjusting the pH close to neutral. This medium inhibits fungi like Cryptococcus neoformans, Aspergillus, Nocardia, certain Candida species but allow the dermatophytes to grow well.
