NUTRIENT BROTH (W/O NaCl) pH 6.9 (VEG.)

Nutrient Broth (w/o NaCl) pH 6.9 (Veg) is prepared by completely replacing animal based peptones with vegetable peptones which makes the medium free of BSE/TSE risks. Nutrient Broth (Veg) with pH 6.9 and devoid of NaCl is a relatively simple formulation which can support the growth of non-fastidious microorganisms. If this medium is incorporated with 6.5% NaCl then it acts as a differential and selective agent by interfering with the osmotic balance and permeability of the membrane of majority of microorganisms. On addition of 6.5% sodium chloride, this medium can also be used to determine salt tolerance of Enterococci.
