WHO recommends regular microbial testing of drinking water to avoid disease caused by contaminated water or to check for faecal contamination. Majorly it was suggested that the presence of Salmonella in water is from the faeces of birds and reptiles. These species faeces do not contain coliforms. Salmonella detection is a time-consuming process, and to speed it up, the Manja’s method using H₂S strips is preferred. The Water Testing Kit is based on a similar principle: the production of Hydrogen Sulphide. The Water Testing Kit is primarily used to detect Salmonella, Citrobacter and E. coli based on H₂S production in glass bottles. It contains all the necessary nutrients for the growth of Salmonella and Citrobacter freundii .
